the traditional design and build approach issues:

1. Over-complicated communication. The client must control & co-ordinate disparate specialists often with little or no effective communication.
2. Adversarial ethos. Specialists' aims & objectives are in conflict with each other as each sub-contractor is effectively working on a different project culminating in a ‘blame’ culture when jobs go wrong.
3. Inefficient cost control. The true cost is not known until the tenders are returned, & all may be over-budget. Cost overruns are common, particularly if changes/modifications are required post-tender & ‘extras’ are plentiful due to the project not being completely agreed pre-start. See the MPL way
